SwitchGear Interface Modules

Hardware interface modules connect the SwitchGear MCU to the physical world. You choose the type and number of modules to match the system under control.

Interface modules have a System Connector for wiring to the external system and a MCU Interface for signals to the MCU.


The System connector is typically an industrial 12-way pluggable screw terminal block. In some cases a different connector is specified by the external device.

The MCU Interface carries up to 12 digital i/o signals, 4 analogue signals and power. The digital signals are routed to the MCU pins that are appropriate for your application.

Comprehensive Features

SwitchGear modules include all required interface circuitry to connect to the real-world – line drivers, signal conditioning, power supplies, isolation and protection. In most cases, the system is built by using simple cables to connect the converter system to SwitchGear.

In contrast, other controllers provide only generic I/O functionality and require the user to design and build their own interface circuitry.

SwitchGear connects directly to standard gate drivers and sensors.

Converter Interface Modules

The fastest way to build a power converter system is to use off-the-shelf components, including:

  • gate drivers that mount directly to standard devices
  • integrated power modules (IPM) that include DC link and heatsink
  • power stacks that include current & voltage sensors

The SwitchGear ecosystem includes modules that can connect directly to many of these power stage components.

Analogue Interface Modules

Module AIN004 provides connectivity to sensors for real-time measurement of AC/DC currents and voltages.

Commercial current sensors are available for current measurement in the range 10 to 500 A, and beyond. Voltage sensors are available for voltage measurement in the range 100 to 1200 V, and beyond.

Modules AIN003 and AOU001 enable SwitchGear to interact with standard industrial components and process control systems.
